Core Catholic Values
The core purpose of our Mission Statement, “To each according to their needs”, as encapsulated by the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley, underpins all aspects of School life. The ‘how’ is encapsulated by our motto, “Age Quod Agis” (“Whatever you do, do it well”), and all of our teachers encourage and support each individual in living out our core Catholic values:
• Kindness
• Mutual respect
• Personal integrity
• Making the most of the gifts bestowed upon you by God
There is a discernible commitment from all teachers to nurture each individual pupil so that they can become the best version of themselves. Our spiritual life enriches our core purpose by enabling all pupils, irrespective of their faith background, to grow as valued members of a strong and cohesive community, who manifest the presence of God within each us through their very actions.
At OLA, we support the Portsmouth Diocese’s vision of “Bringing people closer to Jesus Christ through His Church”:
Catholic Life and Mission
-
- This is best shown by our commitment to our core purpose.
- Promotion of Catholic School Teaching in all areas of School life e.g. our weekly themes are linked to Catholic Social Teaching Principles.
- Engaging with the local community through our links with charities e.g. Emmaus Oxford, Abingdon Foodbank.
- Religious Education – RE continues to be a core subject to GCSE level and is an integral part of our curriculum.
- Collective Worship – please refer to the separate Liturgical Calendars to see how and when we worship together as a community.
