THURSDAY 24 AUGUST 2023: GCSE Results

OLA Pupils achieve top grades in another excellent GCSE performance.

Abingdon-on-Thames, Oxfordshire – Our Lady’s Abingdon are celebrating another strong year of GCSE results. An outstanding 95% of results are graded 9-4, with 48% graded 9-7 and 46% achieved at least one grade 9.

OLA is proud of their GCSE pupils this year, who have achieved higher than the last set of GCSE public exams in 2019. An outstanding 95% of results are graded 9-4, with 48% graded 9-7. The fact that 46% achieved at least one grade 9 reinforces our ethos of meeting the individual pupil’s needs.

Pupils achieved well in core subjects with 47% of pupils achieving a 9-8 grade in English Language and 48% of pupils achieving a 9-7 grade in Mathematics. 60% of pupils achieved straight 9-5 grades and one pupil, Stephen W, achieved an exceptional set of results with 11 grade 9s. Lana J also achieved well with 6 grade 8s and 3 grade 9s. Special congratulations must be given to Stephen, Elias, Tobi and Jemma who achieved grade 9 in Further Maths. Further Maths is offered as an extra GCSE for the most able mathematicians and is studied off timetable.

These results, in addition to our A-Level results last week, are testimony to the resilience and determination of our pupils and the nurturing support and commitment of our inspiring teachers who work tirelessly to ensure every pupil fulfils their potential.

As a school, OLA is able to add considerable value to an individual pupil’s performance. Class sizes are small and year group sizes are also comparatively small, meaning that teachers are able to form positive relationships with all pupils and to monitor the progress of each pupil closely. OLA enables all pupils to make the most of their gifts, and to achieve beyond their expectations. The School welcomes pupils of all abilities and caters for pupils with a wide range of special educational needs, and all are enabled to fulfil their potential.

Commenting on the GCSE results, Head of OLA, Daniel Gibbons said: “OLA has a diverse range of pupils, and it is a testament to the strong relationships between pupils and teachers that each and every individual is able to fulfil their potential. We continue to live out our core purpose of “To each according to their needs”, and we are very proud of each individual pupil and all that they achieve, both in and out of the classroom. All pupils at all levels of ability have performed to their potential in their GCSE exams, and we welcome them to OLA 6th.”
