Academic excellence grows at OLA with another outstanding GCSE performance

Abingdon-on-Thames, Oxfordshire – OLA is proud of their GCSE pupils this year, as significantly more pupils have achieved straight 9-8 and 9-7 grades compared to 2023.

Nick G achieved an outstanding 10 grade 9’s. Miranda C achieved straight 9/8 grades and 7 pupils in total scored straight 9-7 grades compared to 2 last year. Strong performances were achieved in English Language and Literature, Science – Separate and Combined, Religious Studies, French and Spanish. These results, in addition to our A-Level results last week, are testimony to the resilience and determination of our pupils and the nurturing support and commitment of our inspiring teachers who work tirelessly to ensure every pupil fulfils their potential.

As a school, OLA is able to add considerable value to an individual pupil’s performance. The overall percentage of grades 9-7 and 9-6 are similar to last year and, as well as more pupils achieving straight 9-7 grades, well over half achieved at least one 9 or 8 grade. Class sizes are small and year group sizes are also comparatively small, meaning that teachers are able to form positive relationships with all pupils and to monitor the progress of each pupil closely. OLA enables all pupils to make the most of their gifts, and to achieve beyond their expectations. The School welcomes pupils of all abilities and caters for pupils with a wide range of special educational needs, and all are enabled to fulfil their potential.

Commenting on the GCSE results, Head of OLA, Daniel Gibbons said: “Academic excellence continues at OLA and, once again, our pupils have shown that they are able to perform at the highest level and, in a similar vein to last week’s A-level results, we have seen a significant increase in the number of pupils achieving top grades. In keeping with the core purpose of “To each according to their needs”, we also expect our value-added to be significantly high, with pupils of all abilities exceeding their expectations across the board. Well over half of our pupils have achieved at least one grade 9 or grade 8. At OLA, our wonderful staff inspire our pupils to explore and discover their passions and, once they have a particular interest in a subject, they nurture and grow their aptitude so that they can achieve the best grade possible.”
